The toughest man onscreen serves up golden showers of laughs

Legendary cinematic hardman Michael Madsen’s most tender onscreen moment came in Reservoir Dogs when he dumped gasoline on a bound cop and cut his ear off. In My Boss’ Daughter, Madsen gets to floss his comedic chops for the first time playing a drug dealer who pees on everything. Including Ashton Kucher.
You played the dad in Free Willy. In this film, you Free Willy in a different way. What kind of preparation did you do for your role?
I drank an enormous amount of liquids. I take my dog for a walk in the morning and we all have a little piss fest up there. Sometimes it doesn’t work when you want it to. Everybody was having such a good time that it worked out okay. I rose to the occasion. I earned my fee.
Did you do any rehearsing off set?
I introduced Ashton to absinthe much to the chagrin of the producers of the film who were very annoyed with me the next day. I said look man, a little bit of this goes a long way. God forgive me.
What was your favorite thing your character peed on?
Ashton’s leg. He probably doesn’t want me to tell you that. It was a long afternoon.
Did he try to Punk you for peeing on his leg?
He was game for it. I’ve heard that Ashton doesn’t like the picture and I’m sad that he feels that way because I don’t think he knows how funny it is.
Was he wearing any trucker caps when you shot?
That’s crazy that you just asked me that because I was thinking about him on the elevator. He had this whole Levi outfit on with a hat and everything. I wasn’t sure if he was kidding. He has an outfit: pants, coat, cap, the whole deal.
Now that he’s a pro pranker do you ever think about Punking him? Maybe you could tie him to a chair in a warehouse, pour gasoline on him, and cut his ear off. . .
I’ve been trying to think of a scenario I could set him up for but the more I talk about it the less likely it’ll be to happen because he’ll know I’m coming. It would be interesting to turn the tables on him. If I could be enlisted to do something like that that would be a lot of fun. It would be interesting to come up with a scenario that could outfox him. |
